e8watch

Nice watch posted on Better Living Through Design. Designed by Brieuc du Roscoät for Lexon, it eschews traditional numbers, dials and the like for a graphic, representative interface. Not unlike Tokyoflash, although far more refined. Lexon also has lots of other good stuff. Check out their audio equipment and clocks as well.

Twelve

True to form, prolific Japanese maestro Naoto Fukasawa has just done up this new watch in collaboration with Issey Miyake. Nondescript and minimalist, he reduces the watch to it barest elements and going against the grain, puts zero ornamentation on it save the brand logo, which is just like what he does with plusminuszero. Reading him describe his idea is brilliant as well, he basically added 12 "segments" which serve as the hourmarks, so all he needed were the hands. Strikingly simple, it also looks like he did it leftover from his Neon handphone project with au by KDDI. He use the same palette and font even. Still, I find the blue face to be incredibly refreshing. Check the chronograph version.

Seiko Spectrum

Engadget reports on this cool new watch from Seiko Epson using e-ink technology. The Seiko Spectrum is apparently the first wristwatch to make use of this revolutionary new technology. Love the monochrome screen and the futurist bangle style.

For more info, here's a Howstuffworks intro to e-ink and its possible uses.

Nooka

Check out these watches from watch company Nooka. Most of the watches eschew traditional representation of time as we know it, either just digital numbers or an analog format, but a number of dots or a linear line instead.

Whilst I suppose that might take some getting used to, the watches themselves are good looking enough to be worth the trouble. Besides, the humble watch has grown from being simply a timepiece to a status symbol, fashion accesory and a viable alternative to a bracelet or like jewellery for men.
